About

Jade Kai is a writer, educator, and PhD Candidate in the department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Stony Brook University.

Their research centers transgender politics, spirituality, care work, and the relationship between gender and settler colonialism. This work honors the knowledge of non-normative embodiments through the lens of their own mixed black/white, queer and trans subjectivity.

Kai is currently writing their dissertation titled Transing Care: Unsettling ‘the Human’ in Transgender Politics. This project explores the life-sustaining practices of trans care and identifies how the category ‘human’ informs transgender rights politics. You can find their other writing here.

Kai also teaches courses on race, gender, and sexuality. Click here to learn more about their pedagogy.

The source of our connection is a deeply spiritual one. It’s a Divine connection. It’s that mirror reflection that Audre [Lorde] talks about a lot … the fact that you are reflected in me, and I in you.”
